12:30 PM - 2:00 PM    Hikes - March 6: National Day of Unplugging Hike
The Passaic County Parks & Recreation Department hosts monthly themed hikes throughout many of their county parks. Check back often to reserve your spot in one of our hikes!January 1st @ 12:30 PM: First Day HikeFirst Day Hikes are part of a nationwide initiative led by America’s State Parks to encourage people to get outdoors.  On New Year’s Day, hundreds of free, guided hikes will be organized in all 50 states. For Passaic County, our hiking leader will guide you through the beautiful sights of our largest park, Garret Mountain ReservationFebruary 28th @ 12:30 PM: Winter Hike - CANCELED DUE TO ICY CONDITIONS AND BAD WEATHERAs part of National Invasive Species Awareness Week our leader will lead a hike through Rifle Camp Park pointing out any possible invasive species on the hike and the impact they have on the local ecology.March 6th @ 12:30 PM: National Day of Unplugging HikeNational Day of Unplugging is an awareness campaign that promotes a 24-hour respite from technology annually observed the first weekend in March. Leave your cell phone in the car as our leader takes you on an early spring walk of Garret Mountain Reservation.April 30th @ 5:30 PM: Arbor Day HikeArbor Day is a day to celebrate the trees that help support our ecosystems. Our hike leader will lead everyone through Apshawa Preserve pointing out the different types of trees and the roles they play in a healthy forest.

1:00 PM - 2:00 PM    Environmental Education with Lokai Rose - Garden to Table
Lokai Rose is a wildlife education organization that provides exciting outdoor exploration, up-close wildlife interaction, and passionate education about all things nature. Their specialties include summer camps, family activities, special events, scout programs, and K-12 school enrichment aligned with state education standards.Lokai Rose's wildlife educators will be bringing their animals and fun, interactive programming to our county parks to educate your children!National Bird Day (January 9th)Birds are some of the most amazing animals on our planet! They can be found deep in the jungle, flying over the arctic, running across the desert, and even singing in your backyard. Join us in celebrating these amazing creatures by studying exotic bird feathers and virtually traveling along a migration around the world! Each guest will learn how to create their own bird-feeder ornament, learn how to identify the birds in their backyard, and enjoy an exclusive virtual meet & greet with gorgeous ambassador birds. (Recommended for ages 5- 12, but all ages welcome!)Wild Valentine (February 13th)Learn how animals show love in the animal kingdom, and how its similar or different from humans. Each guest gets to create their own valentine themed bar of vegan hand-soap and a wild Valentine’s Day card. Guests will get to mix their own hot chocolate drink and take it home with them in an environmentally friendly travel cup. (Recommended for ages 7+, but all ages welcome.)  Garden to Table (March 13th)Learn about the uniqueness of plants and why they make our food so special. Each guest will get to choose and plant their own garden nursery, and create a personalized care booklet for their plants. We will also discuss and meet some of the native pests and friends that may be visiting their garden. (Recommended for ages 7+, but all ages welcome.)  The Incredible Journey/National Frog Day (April 10th)Water is something that connects all living things on this Earth. Water travels through rivers, lakes, forests, and even through plants and animals! Join us for an incredible journey around the world as a single droplet of water to better understand the importance of this resource. Each guest will create their own water cycle bracelet and meet some ambassador animals that depend on clean water for survival. 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM    Forest Bathing Walks - March 14th Forest Bathing Walk
Forest bathing is a mindful walk in the woods with the specific intention to connect with the natural world and to gain benefit and energy from it. In other words, you are bathing in the energy of the trees, leaves, sky, and earth. Think of it as a guided, meditative, healing walk through the forests of Garret Mountain Reservation. Groups will meet at the boathouse parking lot.  This event will be hosted by Gerti Schoen:Gerti Schoen is a psychotherapist, spiritual counselor, and forest therapy guide in NYC and NJ. Over the past 20 years, she has studied eco-feminist spirituality, mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral approaches, Eastern philosophy, energy healing, nature connection, dreamwork, and shamanic practices, and has come to greatly appreciate how much these teachings help in the healing process.
