The Passaic County Parks & Recreation Department hosts monthly themed hikes throughout many of their county parks. 
Check back often to reserve your spot in one of our hikes!

January 1st @ 12:30 PM: First Day Hike
First Day Hikes are part of a nationwide initiative led by America’s State Parks to encourage people to get outdoors.  On New Year’s Day, hundreds of free, guided hikes will be organized in all 50 states. For Passaic County, our hiking leader will guide you through the beautiful sights of our largest park, Garret Mountain Reservation

February 28th @ 12:30 PM: Winter Hike - CANCELED DUE TO ICY CONDITIONS AND BAD WEATHER
As part of National Invasive Species Awareness Week our leader will lead a hike through Rifle Camp Park pointing out any possible invasive species on the hike and the impact they have on the local ecology.

March 6th @ 12:30 PM: National Day of Unplugging Hike
National Day of Unplugging is an awareness campaign that promotes a 24-hour respite from technology annually observed the first weekend in March. Leave your cell phone in the car as our leader takes you on an early spring walk of Garret Mountain Reservation.

April 30th @ 5:30 PM: Arbor Day Hike
Arbor Day is a day to celebrate the trees that help support our ecosystems. Our hike leader will lead everyone through Apshawa Preserve pointing out the different types of trees and the roles they play in a healthy forest.

May 15th @ 10:00 AM: Kids to Parks Day Hike
Kids to Parks Day is a nationwide celebration of the great outdoors organized by the National Parks Trust and is designed to connect kids and families with their local, state, and national parks and public lands. At Garret Mountain Reservation we’re going to have a guided nature hike to encourage kids to get outside and have fun!

June 27th @ 10:00 AM: Great Outdoors Hike @ Highland Preserve
National Great Outdoors Month in June reminds us to explore our nation’s abundant wildlife refuges, parks, and natural beauty. Join us for a hike around West Milford’s recently renovated Highlands Preserve. Free program.

July 7th @ 5:30 PM: National Father/Daughter Take a Walk Day Hike @ Apshawa Preserve
Celebrated annually on July 7, it is National Father/Daughter Take a Walk Day. This day was created to promote the benefits of family bonding time between fathers and daughters as well as the benefits of physical activity. Join our hike leader for a quick hike around the reservoir of Apshawa Preserve. 

Saturday, August 21 @ 9:00 AM: National Dog Day Hike @ Rifle Camp Park
National Dog Day is celebrated August 26th annually and was founded in 2004 by Pet & Family Lifestyle Expert, Animal Rescue Advocate, Conservationist, Dog Trainer, and Author, Colleen Paige. Passaic County Parks & Recreation is starting the celebration early with this dog hike around Rifle Camp Park! All dogs must remain on a leash no longer than 6 feet and must play well with other people & other dogs.
