Water & Wetlands Hike
Where: Highlands Preserve - 21 Warwick Tpke. Hewitt, NJ
When: Friday, April 9th @ 5:30 PM
Ages: 6 and above
After such a snowy winter, where does all that water go as the weather warms up? On this easy/moderate hike through the Highlands Preserve, we will explore the Cooley Brook and surrounding wetlands while looking for the animals and plants that live there in the spring. We'll be discussing all things water, and talk about our local watershed, stream science, and the ecology of wetland habitats. (Ages 6+)

Into Bloom
Where: Apshawa Preserve - 12 Northwood Dr. West Milford, NJ
When: Saturday, April 17th @ 1:00 PM
Ages: 6 and above
This hike is all about the excitement of seeing the first green sprouts and colorful blooms in early spring! We will take a moderate/hard hike to the Butler Reservoir while we keep our observant eyes on the forest floor to look for wildflowers. These spring ephemeral flowers only stick around until the trees grow in their leaves, so we will take advantage of this special time to learn about these stunning seasonal plants. (Ages 6+)

Discover Birding!
Where: Garret Mountain Reservation - 8 Mountain Ave. Woodland Park, NJ
When: Sunday, May 2nd @ 7:30 AM
Ages: 10 and above
Springtime in New Jersey: there are few better places and times to begin paying closer attention to the birds living around us. During this easy and slow-paced hike, we will discuss the birds we see along the way, including some basic field identification, springtime behavior, and avian ecology.  (Ages 10+)

Rockin' the Highlands Hike
Where: The New Weis Center - 150 Snake Den Rd, Ringwood, NJ 07456
When: Saturday, May 22nd, @ 2:00 PM
Ages: 6 and above
In our northern NJ mountains, we have a rich geologic history that brought us here, as well as a variety or rocks and minerals that make this area unique. On this moderate hike we will read the landscape to discover how the mountains were formed and shaped, and then focus in on the individual minerals that make up the rocks, mountains, and soils. (Ages 6+)

Masks and 6 feet of social distancing are required for each of these walks.
