The Passaic County Parks & Recreation Department along with the Friends of Garret Mountain Reservation are planning a fun-filled, educational celebration of Earth Day!

Children's Activity Schedule:
10:00 AM - Reading with a Ranger: Bring a blanket and cuddle up with your child for a great nature
read aloud with a Passaic County Park Ranger!
11:00 AM - Animal Tracks & Traces: Your child will learn about the many types of evidence that animals leave behind in nature. Tracks, scat, feathers and fur! We’ll leave no signs untouched! They will even make their own plaster track to take home!
12:30 PM - Animal Skins & Skulls: Your child will enjoy exploring the Park Rangers’ extensive collection of animal skins and skulls while learning about the special adaptations that help these residents of Passaic County species survive.
1:30 PM - Bird Hurdles: It’s migration time, when animals of all types travel great distances to follow and find their
favorite food. Join your child as they navigate our fun migration obstacle course while learning about the challenges that wild birds face during their long journeys.
2:30 PM - Pond Life: Park Rangers will guide your child through a hands-on exploration of the diverse plant and animal life found in a freshwater pond. They will use nets and magnifying lenses to collect and examine aquatic organisms.
Adult Activity Schedule:
9:00 AM - Bird Watching Hike by Montclair Bird Club: Join the Montclair Bird Club on a captivating bird watching hike where you'll explore scenic trails and discover the rich diversity of native bird species. Guided by experienced ornithologists, you'll gain fascinating insights into local avian behaviors and the habitats they call home.
10:00 AM - Park Clean-Up hosted by Little Falls Girl Scouts: Kick off the 3rd Annual Earth Day Celebration with a park clean-up led by a Little Falls Girl Scout troop #96529! Join us at 10 AM to help beautify Rifle Camp Park and make a tangible impact on our environment. Together, we’ll celebrate Earth Day by giving back to the planet we call home!
12:00 PM - Tree Planting Ceremony hosted by Passaic County Board of County Commissioners and Friends of Garret Mountain Reservation: Every year as part of Passaic County’s Earth Day Celebration, the Passaic County Board of County Commissioners and the Friends of Garret Mountain Reservation collect funds to plant native trees throughout Garret Mountain and Rifle Camp Park. 12:30 PM - Nature Journaling Workshop hosted by James Sisti of Hike & Draw: As part of our 3rd Annual Earth Day Celebration, join hike artist James Sisti as he leads the group through a nature hike and teaches you basic drawing skills to document what you see and experience. Beginners are welcome and encouraged to attend!
2:00 PM - Step Inside the Tree's World Meditation Walk hosted by Partner with Nature: Want to expand inner peace? Ever wonder how you’d feel if you were a tree? Learn amazing secrets. Enjoy the experience of a healing give-and-take with tree intelligence. Come to Earth Day to enjoy a meditative walk & talk led by Dr. Jim Conroy and Basia Alexander.
